The role
This is not a “manage the book” kind of BDM role.
This is about building one.
We’re looking for a commercially sharp, driven Business Development Manager to join our Central Commercial Markets team, based in Hamilton. This role is all about finding, winning and converting new business opportunities — growing Ando’s footprint by getting in front of the right brokers, asking smart questions, and spotting opportunities others might miss.
Yes, relationships matter here — but they’re built through action, credibility and results, not just coffees.
You’ll partner closely with one of our Commercial Underwriters to bring deals to life, but your focus is clear: open doors, create momentum, and deliver growth.
What you’ll be doing
Proactively identifying, targeting and winning new business opportunities across the Waikato region
Building and executing a clear plan to grow market share and broker engagement
Getting in front of brokers — not waiting for the phone to ring
Partnering with Underwriting to structure and land quality deals
Using insight, curiosity and commercial judgement to spot opportunities others overlook
What you’ll bring
Proven experience in commercial insurance (Property, Liability, Motor) within the NZ market
A genuine hunter mindset — you’re motivated by winning new business, not just maintaining it
Strong sales discipline and a track record of hitting (and exceeding) growth targets
Confidence to challenge, influence and create opportunities with brokers
Resilience, energy and a self-starting attitude — you don’t wait to be told where to go
