The Role

As Head of Marine, you’ll have overall responsibility for the performance, direction and evolution of Ando’s Marine portfolio. You’ll lead a small but highly capable team of experienced marine underwriters and play a pivotal role in shaping broker engagement, market positioning and strategic growth.

You’ll be joining the business at a time where there is genuine openness to new ideas, strong alignment at senior leadership level, and real appetite to invest in the Marine portfolio’s success.

While this role is based in Auckland, we’re open to considering outstanding candidates who are based elsewhere in New Zealand and willing to commute to Auckland on a regular basis. We are also an Accredited Employer and can assist with Visa Sponsorship for qualified overseas based candidates.

What you’ll be doing

• Drive the development and delivery of Ando’s Marine underwriting strategy, ensuring sustainable profitability and growth

• Lead binder negotiations with Lloyds Brokers, Lloyds Syndicates and Insurers across marine transactions

• Build, strengthen and re-energise broker and partner relationships, creating new opportunities in the market

• Lead and develop a small, high-performing team, fostering a collaborative and accountable culture

• Represent Ando confidently and credibly within the marine insurance market

What we’re looking for

• Extensive experience in the marine insurance space, with a strong understanding of underwriting risks across Cargo, Hull, and Marine Liability lines

• Excellent communication and relationship-management skills, bringing credibility to engage with senior brokers

• Ability to grow and manage a profitable book of business and influence market direction

• Previous leadership or people-management experience is advantageous, but not essential for someone with 10+ years marine underwriting experience ready to step up
